Location: Todd 234
10:00AM - 11:20AM on Friday, April 4th

This presentation will provide context for the centuries-long clash and conflicts between indigenous matrilineal cultures and capitalist settler societies of the Mexico-U.S. Zone of Militarized Occupation & Conflict.

Focusing on 3 communities in the militarized conflict region, Tamez will share up-to-date information about the resistances and strategies of indigenous women. Finally, an update of the internationally recognized Lipan Apache Women (El Calaboz) Defense and their class action suit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Army, and U.S. Customs Border Patrol will be discussed.

Margo Tamez (PhD student, American Studies; TA, Womens Studies, WSU) is Lebaiye' Nde' and Suma' Nde' hi'ke Nnee' (Lipan Apache and Jumano-Chiricahua Apache) of the Rio Grande river people whose aboriginal territories are dissected by the Mexico-United States international boundary.
